Valences

A valance is a form of window treatment that hangs from the top of the window. The terms topper and top treatment are frequently used interchangeably to refer to valances. Valances can be used alone on a window or as part of a layered window treatment with draperies, shades, or blinds.

Valances actually exist in all forms and sizes, but you’ll most commonly find them in the form of a straight collected valance in homes. Because these valances are inexpensive, there are plenty of them to pick from. But don’t be fooled by the valances’ simplicity. They take a lot of fabric to appear rich on your window, and you may need to buy two or three 50-inch-wide valances like this to fully cover a basic 36-inch window.
